Haryana witnesses over 400% surge in farm fires in a single day

Haryana, a state in northern India, experienced a shocking 435% spike in farm fires in just one day, according to official data released on Monday. This sudden surge in stubble burning incidents is causing serious concerns for the region.

On a single Sunday, Haryana recorded 75 new farm fire incidents, marking a 435% increase from the previous day when only 14 cases were reported. Fatehabad district topped the list with a staggering 180 cases of farm fires, followed by Kaithal with 151, and Ambala with 147.

Worrisome data

The data from the Haryana Space Applications Centre (HARSAC) indicated a worrying trend in the state. Other districts, including Jind (132), Kurukshetra (120), Yamunanagar (68), Hisar (61), Karnal (61), Sonepat (54), Panipat (20), Jhajjar (5), and Faridabad (3), also reported a significant number of farm fires.

The sudden increase in farm fires has raised environmental and health concerns. Stubble burning releases harmful pollutants into the air, contributing to air pollution and affecting the respiratory health of the residents. Authorities are now tasked with addressing this alarming issue and finding sustainable alternatives to stubble burning to protect the environment and public health.
